Projects
October 2002: While flying around one day, the engine rather exploded! Fortunately, John was near the airport and was able to coast in and land with no problems. Needless to say, the Engine Replacement Project was moved up a year or so. A few weeks later, the Green Thing was back up and flying!
Annual 2000-2001: It just so happened that this year the start of the annual coincided with the start of John's new job. What began in October is still going on in February! The ultimatum is to get it finished by the end of this month!
So much to do; so little time!!!
We have completed most of the projects that we originally wanted to do. About the only thing left now is to give the airplane a paint job.
Completed Projects
- Completed the first annual condition inspection. No major problems
were found! We took the opportunity to paint the propeller and also
removed some paint to expose the original Chinese red stars on the
wings.
- Replaced the exhaust stacks. Considering that there were already several holes in them, this was probably an overdue project!
- Replaced the harnesses. Now we don't have to worry that John
will fall out when he turns the plane upside down :-)
- Added strobes. Hopefully the other planes will be able to spot
us now.
- At the beginning of May, we purchased enough instruments to be basic
IFR capable. John installed these in June.
